Great video: IBM develop a young girl’s idea to build a flashing crosswalk to remind drivers that pedestrians are coming.
Nice idea…just watch out during the day!

After reading Angelina Jolie’s op-ed in the New York Times Tuesday, it’s easy to be left with the feeling that all a woman really has to consider, when confronted with aggressive or fatal breast cancer, is whether to have a mastectomy and/or oophorectomy (removal of one/both ovaries).
After reading responses to that op-ed on this site and others, it’s easy to see that people find a hero in Jolie … and for good reason. Her actions are heroic! So, let’s support Angelina Jolie. Without pause or apostrophe, let’s recognize her courage in preventing treating breast cancer and her heroism in publicly disclosing that treatment. Let’s support Angelina Jolie.
And let’s make sure that support is grounded in the full complexity of her statement and the privileged context surrounding her testing, treatment, and eventual disclosure. Let’s support Angelia Jolie, and let’s realize (as Jolie alluded) that there are many, many women who won’t have the opportunity to be tested, treated, and discuss those tests and treatments on the op-ed page of the New York Times. Let’s support Angelina Jolie, and let’s inform our accolades so that women who don’t (or can’t) act as she acted could still be called brave and heroic.

Five simple fucking ingredients in this bitch right here. This is some good shit to make when you are feeling bougie as fuck. High-fructose corn syrup? Naw son, I don’t play that. Hit this with some vodka though, different story. Max relax.
LAVENDER LEMONADE
5 cups of water
1/2 -3/4 cup sugar (yeah, it is fucking lemonade. without the sugar it is just real sour fucking water)
3/4 cup Meyer lemon juice, about 6 lemons (you can just use the regular lemons at the store too, not a dealbreaker)
juice of half a lime
4 sprigs of fresh lavender
Bring the water to a boil in a medium pot. Add the sugar and simmer that shit on a low heat for about 5 minutes. Make sure to stir it on the regular. The sugar should be all dissolved in the water by now with no little fucking grains rolling around in there. Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice, lime juice, and lavender. Let it cool until it is around room temperature. Take the lavender pieces out but use a fucking spoon and not your fingers if you are going to serve that shit to other people. Put the lemonade in the fridge to cool down all the way. Serve with lemon wedges and a pinch of dried lavender if you want it to look fucking impressive.
makes about 1 quart of chill the fuck out

Lauryn Hill Ordered by the Court to Undergo “Counseling” Due to her “Conspiracy Theories”
The name of Lauryn Hill’s breakout album was The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill but it now appears that the powers that be would like her to record a new album called The Re-Education of Lauryn Hill. After appearing in court for tax evasion, Hill was sentenced to three months in jail PLUS she must attend “counseling” due to her “conspiracy theories”.
According to the IBTimes, Hill told the court: “I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them. I had an economic system imposed on me.” Furthermore, Hill also believes that artists are being oppressed by (what the article calls) “a plot involving the military and media”. Because of these statements, Hill was ordered to undergo “counseling”, which is a way of saying that she is mentally ill and that she needs some sort of re-programming session regain “sanity”.
In 2012, Hill published a thoughtful letter describing the corruption, the oppression and the control of the music industry and her desire to escape it. In one part of the letter, Lauryn states
“It was this schism and the hypocrisy, violence and social cannibalism it enabled, that I wanted and needed to be freed from, not from art or music, but the suppression/repression and reduction of that art and music to a bottom line alone, without regard for anything else. Over-commercialization and its resulting restrictions and limitations can be very damaging and distorting to the inherent nature of the individual. I Love making art, I Love making music, these are as natural and necessary for me almost as breathing or talking. To be denied the right to pursue it according to my ability, as well as be properly acknowledged and compensated for it, in an attempt to control, is manipulation directed at my most basic rights! These forms of expression, along with others, effectively comprise my free speech! Defending, preserving, and protecting these rights are critically important, especially in a paradigm where veiled racism, sexism, ageism, nepotism, and deliberate economic control are still blatant realities!!!”
(See my article entitled Lauryn Hill’s Tumblr Letter on the Music Business for the full letter).
wow, way to fucking delegitimize and pathologize the experiences of a Black woman by abusing mental health resources and language to avoid the real shit she brings up.

He reads the teacher and the education system for filth!
He lucky he not black, though. He would have been handcuffed, arrested, and charged with disorderly conduct. #SchoolToPrisonPipeline

You bury yourself and expect to be found??? You put up walls and traps of the most complex kind and expect them to be broken down??
Consider this: The only way you can be treated by the doctor is to go to his office. He can not help if you do not allow yourself to be examined. At some point when you go to the doctor you have to take off all of your clothes and put on that paper thin gown. You know, the one that covers nothing. …..
The video that no one wants to mention
Such a humble, sensitive dude who literally saved lives and all the media (white corporations) & stupid people can think to do is make a joke out of him. Black men can only be clowns or killers regardless of what we do for other people or for ourselves no matter how selflessly it’s done.
But please keep in mind that we are only really considered “good” or “heroes” when we’ve saved white people’s lives (perhaps because they believe only white people’s lives are worth saving; and perhaps, sadly, we believe that, too), when we’re acting as the Uncle Toms and Mammies of their imaginations, doting over white people’s children and acting as guard dogs for their safety (stories of heroism and life-saving within our own communities rarely seem to be newsworthy, but “black-on-black crime”, whatever that means, is a perennial media favorite). From Uncle Tom’s Cabin to Gone with the Wind to The Help to The Butler to the evening news, most whites can only see us as only subservient to their needs, nursemaids to their well being, necessary for their superiority, or dangerous to their acquisition of property. The more selfless for their own benefit we appear, the more they believe things are just the way they’re supposed to be. They don’t allow us the complexity of a full human life; they would rather that our lives remain in the margins, expressed only in the most distorted and inaccurate of extremes.
